About Us

We're The Brown Bag Bistro, and we've been a leading American-style restaurant here in Alton, IL, since 2018. We have been helping our customers enjoy food that is both scrumptious and popular for more than five years. We offer a variety of sandwiches, soups, salads, and other delicious foods. Our desserts include cheesecake and ice cream to satisfy even the most critical sweet tooth. Our beer and wine selection make us one of the top places in Alton for those looking for a night out on the town. Our Story

Co-owners and mother-daughter team Chris and Erin Velloff started Brown Bag Bistro together in 2018. Chris had a lifelong dream of opening her own restaurant and after her daughter, Erin, graduated college, they decided to take the risk together. Brown Bag Bistro has been providing their local community with delicious food and friendly service ever since!

We’re a family-owned and operated business that makes fresh and consistent sandwiches that are unlike any of our competitors! Our made-to-order sandwiches are completely unique, so stop by Brown Bag Bistro for a one-of-a-kind eating experience. Our menu also includes soups, salads, appetizers, and desserts like ice cream and cheesecake. We also have a beer and wine selection that makes us the best place in town for a night out!

Brown Bag Bistro provides carry out, catering, and a pickup window where customers can stop by and quickly pick up their food orders. Another thing that sets us apart from other restaurants is our Itty Bitty Brown Bag Bistro food display truck! This was our first time at the brown bag bistro in Alton Illinois. A very pleasant restaurant from the moment you walk in the door. You are immediately greeted with a pleasant hello from the staff. They offer wonderful options in this beautifully restored historic building. Our favorites were the two vegetarian sandwich options. They can be easily ordered as vegan by leaving out dairy. Not a lot of seating indoors but plenty of seating outside on there very large patio. This is in the heart of old town Alton Illinois. We will definitely be back!

I am a regular at BBB, but was lucky enough to host a retirement party for a coworker after hours. First off, the food is ALWAYS spectacular… from the appetizers, to the sandwiches, soups, and salads. Treat yourself to a wine slushy and I promise you wont regret it! I have my favorites but literally everything is good. As far as the retirement party, hats off to the Brown Bag Bistro! Everyone at the party was impressed by the food, desserts, and venue. The patio is perfect for a private party and the ownership is more than accommodating. We love BBB!
