Another quick jaunt from St. Louis totally worth the trip!! The Brown Bag Bistro is located on the main drag in historic downtown Alton. They offer a smallish dining space. The menu offers a wide variety of sandwiches, soup, and appetizers. Hop in line and place your order at the counter. Snag a seat, and prepare for a treat! We ordered a few different sandwiches and were pleased with all of them. The portions were generous, and served with a side of your choice. The stand out was the lobster bisque. Rich and creamy and delicious! I'd drive back just for a bowl of soup. Pro tip: we highly recommend the wine slush. The peach was a fan favorite. Wine, ice, and fruit blended together is a winner!!

Tasty Sandwiches. Fresh ingredients and great portions of meat in them. Their gooey butter cake is in fact gooey (unlike many places) and tastes delicious.

Wife and I stopped here for lunch and it was amazing! They were busy, so he prepared for a possible wait if you're going right around lunch. We only waited like maybe 20 minutes for our food, it was a nice day and we sat outside so it really didn't matter :) I had a burger, it was perfect! I got my with chips...again perfect :) Atmosphere was fun and relaxing outside. My wife said her sandwich was great too. We will be back no doubt. All the employees were really nice along the way, no issues there. What stood out to me was the amount of traffic where you order was nuts, but they were all nice and happy to help with our first visit. Thanks all we appreciate it!
